Greater Tokyo’s public transportation network includes the most extensive world’s urban rail network, serving 40 million passengers daily. Japan’s Shinkansen, or Bullet Train, network, consisting of around 2,4 thousand kilometers of high speed railway transports more than 150 million passengers each year, and it has transported in total more passengers than any other high speed train network in the world.
Any transit network is a piece of art. Here, in Japan, it is a masterpiece. And not only it is extremely beautiful in itself, it is also a scene for people. Commuting, going back home after a party or visiting another city – you see so many people in a variety of situations. Large windows of JR trains let you have a look inside a car, and of course take a picture. This chapter is all about it: people and trains, actors and the scene, soul and engineering.
